Pre-Cap for March 4th: Reconciliation

February 29, 2012 — Leave a comment

This week we are continuing to talk about forgiveness in our Overcoming Sin series, but we are focusing on the topic of reconciliation and how that relates to forgiveness.  As our creative team looked at planning for the entire series, this is one aspect that we felt would be important to give “space” in the service to.  Because of that, I planned less music, and placed the music in the service in a way that could allow time for reflection and response to the message.  Reconciliation is not something that is to be taken lightly, or that is easy for us as people who tend to be selfish (okay, maybe just me), so it was important to plan towards some sacred space in the service.  This is what it looks like right now:

Blended Service

“There is Power in the Blood”

“The Power of Your Love”

“Overcome” (with dramatic reading)

“Healing is in Your Hands”

Since most of the sermons in this series are pretty reflective/serious, I have tried to start the service off with songs that either speak to the victory over sin through God’s work of redemption or the recognition of hope we have through the work of the cross in more upbeat tunes.  Then after the welcome, we shift to more reflective themes.  This week, we are changing up “Overcome” by placing a reading in the middle of the song between the bridge (“We will overcome by the blood of the Lamb…”) and the chorus to end…several speakers that will speak of overcoming doubt, fear, unforgiveness, hurt, anger, and other examples.  After the sermon, we are going to do “Healing is in Your Hands” and use that as a reflective time to consider relationships or areas we need to seek reconciliation.

Our other two services are very similar to the pattern of planning in the first, with a little different music, but not much…

“Our God is Love”

“O Praise Him”

“Healing is in Your Hands”

“Father Will You Come”

So that pretty much sums up what I am planning for this weekend service wise…we will also have a reminder through a video about daylight savings time on the 11th, as well as do the announcements in a more unique way…I will share about that on Monday (don’t want to spoil it for anyone who is coming…)

What are your week’s services looking like?

How is the planning?

Share below and let’s collaborate!
